A skylark is a small bird that sings while flying high above the ground. It is known to fly very high vertically and hover singing beautifully, and can be heard for miles around.

I have a strong track record and experience of leading sales teams in some of the leading global technology companies, including VMware, F5, Juniper Networks and most recently AWS.

I've focused on managing with a strong purpose and clarity, and I've built sales teams which have diversity in thinking and styles, as well as diversity in gender, race and lifestyle. I've tried hard to encourage and develop emerging and young talent in every team I've led.

I have been fortunate throughout my career to have worked with some great people, with all types of skills and expertise in a wide range of roles. My network of relationships within the tech industry is broad and I am keen to bring the wealth of experience that exists there to help others starting out in their careers. I strongly believe in nurturing evolving talent using experienced people in current senior roles who can fast track knowledge and skills in young managers.
As a practitioner I have collected a set of tools and approaches that have worked for me as a sales leader, and through personal experience and observing others, I have experienced leadership approaches that work, and those which do not. This has helped me collect a variety of tools, tips, principles and approaches that work for me.

I have gained certified status to deliver individual and team assessments and development workshops based on DiSC and The 5 Behaviours which forms part of my team development portfolio and engagement model

My purpose is to distill this knowledge and content to help other sales leaders who are in their early tenure, or need a helping hand. To deliver this, I've formed Skylark Development as a consultancy, and have delivered workshops for a small number of organisations as a pilot in 2023.

Now that I've had a long and successful career in large tech organisations, I am now keen to help the new generation of sales leaders to survive and thrive in their roles and their organisations, large and small.

Why Skylark?

All Original artwork on this website by the wonderful and talented Karen Sage
A skylark is a small brown bird that sings while flying high above the ground. It is known to fly very high vertically and hover singing beautifully over farmers fields and can be heard for miles around.
During the first World War in northern France, Skylarks could be heard flying high above the battlefield and singing at the tops of their voices while all below was chaos and carnage. Soldiers on all sides considered the Skylark a voice of sanity, beauty and hope while all around was confusion, pain and terror.

I very often stop to listen to these little birds when I go cycling on the South Downs in England and although they are flying so high in the sky, their song is so loud and clear.
They always bring a smile to my face and their song makes me feel good to be alive. This is maybe what my Grandfather heard in Flanders Fields
I’ve often wondered how, for such a small creature and flying so high in the sky, they can be heard with such clarity.
As a single voice (and quite a small person) myself, if I can deliver some clarity and personal impact, like this little bird, I will feel that I’ve achieved something worthwhile with this project
